What's New
ECCLA is always busy meeting its mission of providing enriched educational opportunities to students attending 60 public and parochial schools located in Central Los Angeles.
Here’s what’s new at ECCLA.
New Web site: The Web site you are currently viewing is brand new. After several months of development, it went live in September 2006. We hope you will learn more about the mission and activities of ECCLA by visiting frequently. Here you can learn how to participate in many of its projects and activities. Thank you for your patience as we work out any bugs and glitches that you may encounter as you surf the ECCLA Web site.
New president: Katharine A. Díaz is the new ECCLA president. She comes to ECCLA from USC, one of ECCLA’s member institutions where she serves as director of Community Outreach for USC Civic and Community Relations. She has previously served as secretary of ECCLA. Kathy is responsible along with her colleagues for building relationships between USC and the Exposition/University Park community. She works closely with the USC Family of Schools and edits the “University Park Family” newspaper.
New executive director: Jacqueline A. Hamilton assumed the duty of executive director of ECCLA in August. She holds a law degree from Yale and has been active in our local community for a number of years. This includes the North Area Empowerment Neighborhood Council and the Ted Alexander Science Center School, where she was instrumental in establishing its PTA.
Farewell, Peggy Hentschke: ECCLA bid a sad farewell to Peggy Hentschke who had served as executive director of ECCLA for 10 years. She helped secure ECCLA’s place of importance among the schools it serves and its partners. Her expertise also made it possible to provide fiscal oversight and management to assist community projects, especially USC’s community-outreach programs, thereby contributing to ECCLA’s growth. She will be missed. We wish her well as she makes more time for family and friends. Fortunately, she will remain with ECCLA as a board member.
