Ingrid Moore
2008 Bogart/USC Family of Five Schools Teacher Award Winner, 7th-12th Grade Category
Teacher, 6th Grade Math/Science, James A. Foshay Learning Center

Ingrid Moore has 28 years of experience as a dedicated teacher who enjoys crafts, traveling, decorating, music, sports, cooking and reading. What is unique about this educator is that she creatively incorporates what she enjoys into her passion for teaching. She has taught elementary grades 1 – 6. Currently a 6th grade instructor, I have worked with Ingrid for more than ten years. I find her to be cooperative, professional and knowledgeable. She demonstrates strong teaching skills. She shows initiative.

Ingrid is one of the original teachers who became involved in the programs provided to her site due mainly because Foshay is one of the original USC Family of Five Schools. She is a pioneer for the Mission Science/MESA USC (a hands-on project for students) and has actively coordinated this program for five years. She has participated in USC sponsored middle school robotics trainings which has helped to prepare our current award winning high school robotic team members to be national contenders for major recognition and awards. Ingrid has provided lesson design studies for robotics. She prepares music/recorder lesson units for her sixth grade team to help keep music alive for all students to learn and appreciate. She is a professor and teacher collaborator for Project Science at CSUN. Hoping to motivate students to stay after school to receive homework help, she volunteers and runs a knitting club. Ingrid continues to remain abreast of current trends by attending conferences whenever possible.

What I most admire about Ingrid is that she has been a true team partner to me as we have developed an outstanding after school program through the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Beyond the Bell Program. She is an excellent coordinator for special programs such as intercession and the extended learning program. What she does in addition to helping select and recruit dedicated teachers Is that she provides workshops for the teachers to become familiar with all of the programs we have that are affiliated with USC. She works closely with me and the USC site facilitator to ensure that all of Foshay’s students have an opportunity to benefit from the University of Southern California Civic and Community Relations sponsored programs such as Readers Plus program, USC Mission Science, After School Sports Connection, Kid Watch, Art in The Village and Musical Outreach Programs. She is in tune of the USC FOS partnership goal: “to develop ways in which children can access the community’s rich resources, including its institutions of higher learning, its museums, libraries and recreation facilities.” She continues to provide these unique opportunities and makes sure that the students experience what USC has provided through organizing meaningful field trips for our students.

Ingrid Moore truly deserves the honor of being selected as the ECCLA Teacher-of-the-Year Award winner. She exemplifies everything that ECCLA and USC represent.
